Across town battle

Big 8 girls were back in action Tuesday January 10, Memorial hosted Madison East High School. I hadn't seen Madison East play, so I was excited to see both teams compete.

The game started off physical and when the first sub came in for Memorial the pace increased immensely. Memorial pressed and at times East broke the press with ease with drop off dimes from Kylah McCullers to Gueda Daff for a few easy layups. Memorial was relentless with their pressure and started to cause turnovers that led to points in transition. Arrianna Eubanks who finished with 15 points and 4 steals was a big spark off the bench and had it going in the first half but battled foul trouble in the 2nd half but not before Memorial could build a big lead. East would not go away easy and chipped away at the lead getting it down to 15 twice before a full comeback bringing the game to within 6. Avery Blue and Alexa Rose both scored 18 to keep Memorial in the lead as well as strong play by freshman Ni'Kera Martin that scored 15 as well. Memorial pulled out an 86-73 win. Kylah led all scorers with 20 but got help from Maya Griffin (14 points), Kearra Jones (13 points), and Valerie Richardson (12 points). There will be plenty of action this Martin Luther King Jr. weekend boys playing at Middleton High School and girls playing at Verona Area High School Saturday 1/14/23.
